South Bay Expressway Eastlake Otay Ranch
The southbay expressway SD125 has finally announced they are going to lower the current tolls by up to 40% starting at the end of June 2012. Residents currently living in San Miguel Ranch, parts of Bonita, Chula Vista, Eastlake, Otay Ranch who use the toll road can pay as they go or sign up for an account at www.southbayexpressway.com. The cost is $40 to get started, and is billed only when your credits fall below $10.
The toll road connects the with the 54 and free portion of the 125 freeway, going all the way south the the US Mexico International border where it ends at the 905 freeway. Even if you only travel to Eastlake a few times a year you can use the transbonder at all Fastrack locations in CA.
Originally the plan was to connect Poway to the 125 freeway however the local residents were successfull in stopping this from happening. As well Caltrans wanted to conitnue the freeway north into Riverside and have San Diego's thrid North/South freeway however I doubt this will ever happen.
For now we can enjoy a slightly cheaper toll while traveling to and from Southbay.
